Depth: intertidal to 76 m (249 ft) (min.: Hubbs and Hubbs 1954; max.: M.L., unpubl. data); primarily at middepths among columns of giant kelp (particularly Macrocystis ) (Hubbs and Hubbs 1954). Brachyistius aletes Tarp, 1952 is a synonym (Longo et al. 2018).
