Description
Summary:Oligocottus snyderi Greeley, 1898. Fluffy Sculpin . To 9.2 cm (3.6 in) SL, about 11 cm (4.3 in) TL (Cox et al. 2006). Chernabura Island, western Gulf of Alaska (Mecklenburg et al. 2002); Samsing Cove, near Sitka, south-eastern Alaska (Quast 1968) to Punta Cono (29°06’N, 114°42’W), central Baja California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California). Benthic; depth: intertidal to 6 m (20 ft) or more (min.: Bolin 1944; max.: Burge and Schultz 1973). We also note that there is a considerably deeper record of 155 m (508 ft) (DFO) from the “2006 multi-species small mesh bottom trawl survey.” While without documentation, the difficulty of sampling this quite small, rocky-reef species make this record at least plausible.
