Indo-Pacific (Collette 2004); western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Aizawa in Nakabo 2002); southern California (Miller and Lea 1972) to Easter Island (Pequeño 1989), including lower Gulf of California (Collette in Fischer et al. 1995) and Islas Galápagos (Eschmeyer and Herald 1983). Epipelagic, at and near surface (Fricke et al. 2019). Euleptorhamphus longirostris (Cuvier, 1829) is a junior synonym.
