Circumglobal, predominantly antitropical, on the continental rise; western Pacific Ocean north off northern Sea of Japan off Hokkaido (Yabe in Amaoka et al. 1983) and western North Pacific off southern Honshu (Crabtree et al. 1985) to northern Bering Sea (60°10’N, 179°41’W) (Maslenikov et al. 2013) to Cape Falcon, Oregon (Stein and Butler 1971). Benthopelagic; depth: 700–3,753 m (2,296 –12,313 ft) (min.: Smith in Carpenter and De Angelis 2016; max.: Sulak et al. 1984).
