Syntypes probably lost (Thompson 1937a: 78). Type host: Charadrius hiaticula Linnaeus, 1758. Galápagos hosts: Unconfirmed, possibly Arenaria interpres (Linnaeus, 1758), Actitis macularius (Linnaeus, 1766), and/or Charadrius semipalmatus Bonaparte, 1825 (see Ward 1953: 203). Galápagos localities: Isla Isabela; Isla Santa Fé. Remarks: From the Kellogg Collection, we examined six specimens from the type material of Docophorus peristictus: two females from Galápagos Islands hosts, plus two males and two females from Clipperton and Guadalupe Islands. These specimens were remounted and identified by Ward (1953) as Saemundssonia (Saemundssonia) platygaster. This louse species has not been collected again from any Galápagos host, although it has been recorded from a large number of charadriiform species (Price et al. 2003: 236), including the three Galápagos hosts listed above.
