Galápagos references: Kellogg & Kuwana (1902); Kellogg (1908: 75); Thompson (1939). Other significant references: Kéler (1952: 209–213, figs 4–5); Clay & Hopkins (1960: 4, figs 1–6); Timmermann (1965: 177–179, figs 114–115, 122); Palma (1996: 113); Palma (1999: 375–378); Price et al. Although Dickinson (2003: 74) listed it as the subspecies Pterodroma phaeopygia phaeopygia , we regard it as a full species as well as Pterodroma sandwichensis (Ridgway, 1884), following Browne et al. (1997: 814). Kellogg & Kuwana (1902: 483) recorded “Two immature specimens from an undetermined host” as “ Ancistrona gigas ”, but these specimens could not be found in the Kellogg Collection. Ancistrona vagelli has been recorded from a large number of procellariid hosts (Price et al . 2003: 89), including Pterodroma phaeopygia .
