Preliminary results on crop diversification in rainfed almond systems

The Soil and Water Conservation Group of CEBAS-CSIC presents the first results on Case study 1 of the Diverfarming project (www.diverfarming.eu). In this case study we transformed a rainfed agroecosystem with a traditional almond monocrop into a diversified system. Here we show the preliminary resul...

In this case study we transformed a rainfed agroecosystem with a traditional almond monocrop into a diversified system. Here we show the preliminary results after three years of experimentation, it is a first evaluation on the impact of crop diversification of this farm, with extreme and fragile environmental conditions, on ecosystem services and economic viability. This is one out of 13 case studies on diversification established at different European climatic zones. The work in the case study 1 is carried out in collaboration with the group of Enzymology, Bioremediation and Management of Organic Waste of the CEBAS-CSIC, ASAJA, DML and UPCT. The Diverfarming project is coordinated by Raúl Zornoza (raul.zornoza@upct.es) of the Polytechnical University of Cartagena (UPCT).
