Material examined. Stn 15, four stems 170, 130, 105, and 110 mm high, basibiont of Abietinella operculata (NIWA 117326); Stn 17, numerous stem fragments up to 180 mm, with gonothecae, basibiont of Abietinella operculata and Symplectoscyphus nesioticus (MNCN 2.03/665); Stn 22, colony up to 190 mm high, with immature gonothecae (NIWA 117327); Stn 36, three stems distally broken (130, 180, and 240 mm high) (NIWA 117328); Stn 37, fragmented colony 160 mm high (MNCN 2.03/666); Stn 105, stem fragment 80 mm long (NIWA 117329); Stn 108, stem 100 mm high, in bad condition, with gonothecae (NIWA 117330); Stn 178, distal stem fragment 15 mm long (NIWA 117331); Stn 198, apparently two stems 210 and 180 mm high on stone, with gonothecae, basibiont of Rhizorhagium antarcticum and Symplectoscyphus vanhoeffeni, extra stem 60 mm high, and several fragments (MNCN 2.03/667). Ecology and distribution. Eurybathic species collected at depths between 43 (Stepanjants 1972) and 1890 m (Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2005); present material between 151 and 470 m, basibiont of colonies of Abietinella operculata, Rhizorhagium antarcticum, Symplectoscyphus nesioticus, and S. vanhoeffeni and with gonothecae in February. Circum-Antarctic species (Peña Cantero et al. 1996). Recently reported from off Trinity Island (Peña Cantero 2008), in West Antarctica, and from the Balleny Islands (Peña Cantero 2009) and off Queen Mary Coast (Peña Cantero 2014a), in East Antarctica. See Peña Cantero & Vervoort (2005) for previous records. In the Ross Sea, already known from Moubray Bay, Pennell Bank and off Cape Adare (Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2005).
