Description
Summary:Eudendrium scotti Puce, Cerrano & Bavestrello, 2002 Eudendrium scotti Puce et al. , 2002: 370, fig. 3C, D, fig. 4, fig. 5A, B; Peña Cantero, 2008: 452; 2009: 1745; Peña Cantero & Vervoort, 2009: 84; Peña Cantero et al. , 2013: 736–737, fig. 3f. Material examined. Stn 21, colony with several monosiphonic stems, a few mm high, with a few polyps (NIWA 117479); Stn 148, a few solitary polyps on Staurotheca nonscripta (MNCN 2.03/530). Description. Polyps 300–450 µm high, with ca. 16 tentacles, and a relatively large basal groove. Cnidome composed of large macrobasic euryteles (21–24.8 x 8–10 µm), apparently only on hypostome, and small microbasic euryteles (7–8.5 x 3.5–4 µm). Ecology and distribution. Shelf species found at depths between 10 (Puce et al. 2002) and 135 m (Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2009); present material between 168 and 397 m, epibiotic on Staurotheca nonscripta . Species found epilithic on pebbles (Peña Cantero 2009) and epibiotic on algae (Peña Cantero et al. 2013), hydroids and bryozoans (cf. Peña Cantero 2008; Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2009; Peña Cantero et al. 2013). Basibiont for other hydroids (Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2009). Gonophores in December (Peña Cantero et al. 2013). Circum-Antarctic distribution (Peña Cantero 2009), known from Tethys Bay in the Ross Sea (Puce et al. 2002; Peña Cantero et al. 2013) and the Balleny Islands (Peña Cantero 2009), in East Antarctica, and off Livingston Island (Peña Cantero 2008), Bransfield Strait and off Low Island (Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2009), in West Antarctica. Present material collected off Possession Islands and Moubray Bay. Published as part of ÁLVARO L.
