This black hairy species is distinguished from other species of the Rhamphomyia hirtula group by the bifurcate male cerci with hook-like dorso-basal projection, phallus filamentous apically with distinct medial loop, apex of epandrium with dorsoapical cluster of fine erect setae and ventroapical cluster of long, oblique setae.
