Cryptophagus setulosus is newly recorded on insular Newfoundland (Fig. 4). It was previously recorded by Woodroffe and Coombs (1961) from one specimen collected in Labrador. Additional records above indicate that it is abundant and widespread in southern Labrador (Fig. 6). There are scattered records of this species from a number of Canadian and American provinces and states. Woodroffe and Coombs (1961) refer to it as a possibly Holarctic species, while Bousquet (1991) lists it as Holarctic. Woodroffe and Coombs (1961) noted that in Europe this species occurs on stored produce and it is possible that its North American distribution may have been influenced by commercial activities. In the Palaearctic region it is found throughout Europe, in Algeria and Morocco in North Africa, and in Turkey and Central Asia north to Eastern Siberia (Johnson et al. 2007).
