Description
Summary:This dataset contains model code and input files for a pan-Arctic coupled sea ice-ocean model built on the MITgcm. Original source code is the MITgcm_c66m. The control run (CTRL) starts from 1991 to 2020. Two sensitivity experiments (EXP1 and EXP2) are carried out to examine the impact of ocean geostrophic currents on sea ice circulation in the western Arctic and determine whether this impact is sensitive to the bathymetry. In EXP1, we mask out the surface geostrophic velocity between 120-180°W and 69-81°N since 2003 by storing the sea surface height to zero. In EXP2, the effect of Mendeleev Ridge and Chukchi Plateau is eliminated via smoothing the bathymetry. All the experiments are forced by 3-hourly sea surface wind speed, temperature, humidity, precipitation, pressure, and downward short- and long-wave radiation obtained from the ERA-5. Note that humidity is not archived directly in ERA datasets but can be calculated from surface temperature, dew point temperature, and surface pressure. See the formula at https://confluence.ecmwf.int/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=171411214#:~:text=Specific%20humidity%20at%202meter%20can%20be%20calculated%20over,to%20the%20pressure%20at%202m%29%20in%20these%20equations. code contains code configuration for CTRL, EXP1, and EXP2. input_CTRL contains parameter settings and input files for CTRL. input_EXP1 contains parameter settings and input files for EXP1. input_EXP2 contains parameter settings and input files for EXP2.
