Description
Summary:Pipistrellus (Pipistrellus) stenopterus Dobson 1875 Pipistrellus (Pipistrellus) stenopterus Dobson 1875, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1875: 470. Type Locality: Malaysia, Borneo, Sarawak. Vernacular Names: Narrow-winged Pipistrelle. Distribution: W Malaysia, Sumatra, Riau Arch., N Borneo, Mindanao (Philippines). Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc). Discussion: Subgenus Pipistrellus . Transferred from Nyctalus to Pipistrellus by Medway (1977) following Tate (1942 a ). Koopman (1989 a , 1993) suggested that this species might best be returned to Nyctalus , but see Hill and Harrison (1987) and Corbet and Hill (1992), who instead placed it in Hypsugo . Volleth and Heller (1994) presented strong karyotypic evidence that stenopterus is a true Pipistrellus closely related to javanicus and mimus (the latter here considered a junior synonym of tenuis ).
