In Poland, until 2009, the presence of the bufflehead was reported 3 times (Wielkopolskie [Greater Poland] and Lower Silesia Provinces), but it is not certain whether these were natural occurrences, because this species is a commonly kept in aviculture as an ornamental bird. In Europe, several occurrences in Iceland, Great Britain and Ireland are considered natural. The presented bird was found in the village of Trzciana on 15 March 1885 by Antoni Kocyan.
