Map of north eastern Canada and parts of New England, showing settlements, cities, portages, Native American land, mountains, lakes, and rivers. The unusual vertical format elongates the land and distorts its shape, but the map is remarkably detailed, including both European and Native American place names. The pictorial representations of mountains are fairly ornate, and two large illustrated scenes fill the lower right and upper left corners. The lower right corner features several types of ships on the waves of the ocean. The upper left corner, the title cartouche, features numerous scenes and imagery of Poseidon and Artemis (representing the land and sea), Indian chiefs, explorers, and Hermes and Ares watching over a mapmaker, a fleet of ships, fishermen and wildlife.
