Of particular interest are his descriptions of his experiences in the Civil War. He witnessed the bombardment of Fort Sumter in April, 1961 from the vantage point of Morris Island, participated in the Battle of Seven Pines and the Seven Days Campaign. He was probably in the 26th Infantry Co. I until 1862, then later joined the 1st Artillery Co. E with the rank of 1st Sargent. He was born on February 9, 1842 and died on July 4, 1931 and is buried at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Olanta, Florence County, SC. Also included is a typescript letter from W. M. Larke relating the death of LT. Simeon S.
