Note: A native of Marshall County, Ky., the artist earned her A.B. degree from Western Kentucky State Teachers College between 1925 and 1935 on her summer breaks from teaching in the public schools in Ludington, Michigan. She made this woodcut after accepting a teaching position in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1948. Gough later gave it to Mary Leiper Moore, a librarian in the Kentucky Building. Susitna is a Dena'ina (Athabaskan villages) word, and some residents of Alaska refer to Mt.
