Summary: | Klebsiella granulomatis, a bacteria causing genital ulcers in donovanosis (granuloma inguinale). This is a high power light micrograph which shows K. granulomatis bacteria in the cytoplasm of macrophages. The Warthin-Starry silver stain used in this preparation stains the bacteria and macrophage nuclei black. This stain is not often used in the diagnosis of donovanosis. For tissue smears, Wright's, Giemsa or Leishman stains are typically used. |
