Magnuson, Seattle, said today President Roosevelt has instructed the state department to reopen negotiations with Canada with the view to linking the United States and Alaska with a highway through British Columbia and the Yukon territory. Magnuson said he would not press for enactment of his bill to create a highway commission. Approximately 1183 miles of new road is needed. Of this nearly 1000 miles is in Canada. Engineers estimate the project will cost approximately $13,000,000.
