Description
Summary:'Commuting Glacier' Finds A Champion. 'Commuting Glacier' Finds a Champion FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Thursday, Feb. 18.—(JB—Description of the Black Rapids glacier as an ice mass that "commutes" back and forth every few years without causing damage was given here today by Irving M. Reed, chairman of the Alaska Game Commission, after a flight over the area 125 miles south of here. Reed, expressing doubt that the glacier would engulf a roadhouse, dam the Big Delta River and block interior Alaska's highway to the coast, said the big ice sheet, thirty miles long and more than 3,000 feet thick, had made many similar movements through the ages.
