Brower, famed far north trader who made and lost several fortunes', rescued scores of shipwrecked persons and aided polar exploration in an exciting career as "king of the arctic," announced his retirement today at 76 to "spend the rest of my life in play." After 52 years at this northernmost North American community, Brower expressed only one regret: "Civilization is crowding me out,' and there is no farther north refuge."
