ARCTIC OCEAN IS BLOCKED BY ICE One Vessel Frozen In—Captain Begins 1000-Mile Dog Team Trip. SEATTLE, Oct. 27. -- A dispatch from Nome reports that navigation in the Arctic ocean has closed for the season. The power schooner Silver Wave, which left Nome for Kotzebue sound to bring back a number of men who had planned to pass the winter in Seattle, was unable to get though Bering strait because of the heavy ice and returned to Nome. A private message received tonight from Captain Louis Lane, who sold his large power schooner to Stefansson, receiving in part payment Stefansson's small power boat North Star, said Captain Lane's boat was frozen in on the Arctic coast of Alaska, and that he was making the 1000-mile trip to Cordova, Alaska, by dog team. Captain Lane's message was sent from Circle City, Alaska. Two years ago Captain Lane's message was sent from Circle City, Alaska. Two years ago Captain Lane's schooner Polar Bear was frozen in, and he made the trip out over the same route he is traveling this time.
