Northland Floods Block Roads and Maroon Two Yukon Towns FAIRBANKS, Alaska, June 10. (AP)-Northland floods spread toward the arctic circle today while weather forecasts offered no relief from a beating sun which swelled the rivers with fresh supplies of water from glaciers and snow fields. The Richardson highway in the vicinity of Fairbanks was severed by washed out bridges, and the Yukon territory towns of Dawson and Mayo were cut off from the outside except by boat and airplane. Forest fires broke out in the hills above inundated river bottoms in southeastern Alaska and northern British Columbia. A radio report from Prince Rupert, B. C., said a new fire there destroyed a schoolhouse before the flames were checked. Fires burned around Juneau and fire guards were posted in timbered areas around Ketchikan in the southeastern part of Alaska. Sun Prostrates Woman. A case of sunstroke occurred at Juneau, with Mrs. Ted Adams listed as the patient. Physicians said the suffered a severe attack while on the Thane beach during the hottest weather this week. Volney Richmond, Seattle, president of the Northern Commercial company which operates a trading store a Dawson, flew to Fairbanks from the flooded town and said stores there had lost heavily. Fresh supplies were being rushed to Dawson and to Mayo, he said. Direct communication with Mayo was cut off, but as far as could be learned refugees still were being cared for aboard the river boat Alaska, moored four blocks inland by the Catholic mission. Dykes thrown around the power house at Dawson kept the city's lights and telephones operating.
