"GLACIER PADRE" IS UNAFRAID OF ALASKA DANGERS JUNEAU, Alaska, July 15——Father Bernard Hubbard, famed "parade of the glaciers," has so many narrow escapes with death that his latest thrilling encounter brought only a matter of fact comment from him today. "It's all to be expected in a trip up here," said the veteran of several Alaskan expeditions. He wias referring to his narrow escape from death Sunday when his outboard motorboat in which he and Kenneth "Red' Chisholm of San Francisco, his chief assistant, were proceeding up Twin Glacier river when the swift, choppy stream caught the boat in a cross current and dash ed it to pieces against a rock. "Well, we swam ashore," said the 200-pound Jesuit priest o the University of Santa Clara. Father Hubbard and Chisholm, with two other members in the expedition party, were bivowaced today at their camp base at twin glaciers, making ready to climb Devils Claw Peak. In the meantime a new boat was being built for the party here.
