GLACIER PRIEST IN NEW EXPLOIT Father Hubbard, Men and Dogs Brave Aleutians' Largest Volcano. AKUTAN, Alaska, Aug. 3.—We have just completed exploration of Akutan volcano, probably the largest crater on the Aleutian islands. It is larger than Katmai crater and similaT to Aniakchak. Three men, Edgar Levin, George Peterson and George Getty, and three dogs, Mageik, Katmai and Wolf, all packing their limit of equipment, went with me and we established a camp on the side of the volcano. A 100-mile gale lashed us for 48, hours and forced us to take refuge in a stream bed under a waterfall. We made three descents into Akutan crater, and took more than 6000 feet of motion picture film and 300 still photographs. The crater is about nine miles in circumference and is active in several spots. A lake occupies part of the floor, with ice on one side and warm water on the other. We enjoyed swimming by diving from the snow banks into hot water. Boiling water issues from a split in the crater rim and flows toward the Boring sea. Levin was painfully scalded. Mageik, the blue-eyed dog hero of previous expeditions, fell into, the lake with a thousand feet of filjn in his pack, but he swam out with nothing damanged.
