NOME, Alaska, Sept. 6 (A.P.)-- Amundsen's exploration schooner Maud sailed today for San Francisco, where Captain Oskar Wisting has been instructed to sell the vessel. The Maud was dispatched in June, 1922, to attempt to drift in the arctic ice pack across the north pole, but after the ship had been frozen in two years and a half, Amundsen ordered the expedition abandoned, instructing Captain Wisting to dispose of the Maud in San Francisco. Thrilling experiences during the long stage in the ice, when the tiny vessel many times was threatened with destruction by terrific ice pressure, were related by the members of the crew upon their return to civilization here August 22.
