Summary:Cannery Crews Fighting Fires: Plants Threatened By Forest Blazes On Alaskan Island. GANMERY CREWS FIGHTING FIDES Plants Threatened by Forest Blazes on Alaskan Island. JUNEAU, ALASKA, June 13—(/P)—Kodiak Island cannery crews joined residents today in fighting forest fires which threatened canneries on 15-mile fronts on both sides of Halibut bay. A government radio operator, in a message to the Alaska game commission, said the fire spread rapidly outside the boundaries of the national forest, driving wild life headlong before it. The Kodiak Island fires and numerous blazes now under control in Southeastern Alaska, were attributed to the hot weather which has gripped Alaska the last several days. Heavy melting of snows caused several rivers and streams to run bank high.
