Frozen Reindeer Christmas Feast. FROZEN REINDEER CHRISTMAS FEAST POINT BARROW, Alaska, Dec. 25. (/P)—Far up north under the aurora borealis Christmas today found the Eskimos with a yuletide spirit that expressed itself in ways strange to the people of the unfrozen countries. There was a great Christmas banquet today, a feast of frozen reindeer and fish, followed by Eskimo ice cream, a rare delicacy made of whale oil and reindeer tallow, whipped to a froth. For dessert there was the frozen marrow of the reindeer bones. After the feast there was a church service. The elder Eskimos exchange the conventional presents—sealskin boot soles, reindeer sinews, large frozen fish and such articles. The children held their school program, directed by teachers sent by Uncle Sam to this, the farthest point north under the American flag. The few white people at Point Barrow held their own Christmas celebration, exchanging gifts brought north from Seattle by the C. S. Holmes, four-masted trading schooner.
