June 1.—(By mail.) —Nome's annual dog team race, the Borden Marathon, to Cape Nome and as Fred M. Aver, winner of this year's contest, has won the event three times in succession, thereby obtaining permanent possession of the big cup offered by John Borden, Chicago sportman. Ayer's speedy canines this year set a new Borden Marathon record when they covered the course, 28 miles and 385 yards, in one hour, 50 minutes 21 1-2 seconds. On the books of the Nome. Kennel club, which held the race, this record probably will stand for some time, to come, it is believed. Since the Nome all-Alaska sweepstakes was abandoned a year ago the Borden Marathon has been the big sporting event of the year in dog racing circles.
