Alaskan Will Fly to Dying Mother's Side ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Friday, Dec. 25.—(/P)—Hoping to begin his "death race" today so he can arrive at McMinnville, Or., before his mother dies, Walter Culver, Goodnews Bay mine owner, was prepared to fly today to Whitehorse, Y. T., on the first lap of the trip. Weather halted the takeoff yesterday, and prospects of rain gave Culver little hope of beginning the sorrowful journey today. His mother, Mrs. F. D. Culver, has been given little chance to live. Her son expects to fly with Pilot Chet Brown to Whitehorse and Skagway. where he will board a Canadian boat for Vancouver, B. C, flying the rest of the way to McMinnville, Brown was prominent in the news a few weeks ago when his plane, bound from Anchorage to Juneau with fourteen persons aboard, was lost for two days on a remote bay near Juneau.
