FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Wednesday, April 22.—Ten-year-old Alice Tobok, a full-blooded Eskimo child, has had a real Alice-in-Wonderland experience as an airplane stowaway. Only now she doesn't want to go back to her home at Wiseman, 175 miles north of here. Not even by airplane again. Neither do Mary Ulen, 10, or her sister, Florence, two years younger. "Like pretty houses, talking pictures," the three chorused today in the tow of Noel Wien, noted Alaska pilot. "Like pretty lights of city.' Alice is the only one who didn't like ice cream. The three, attired in mukluks and parkas, hid themselves in the storage compartment of Wien's plane Monday before he left Wiseman. He discovered them shortly before he arrived here. A telegram from an anxious father, Joe Ulen, postmaster at Wiseman, failed to persuade them to return. Wien, however, will fly them back today Text eskimo* Alaska Washington State University: WSU Libraries Digital Collections Fairbanks Pacific |
