Summary:Fairbanks Favored. Fairbanks Favored Fairbanks, Alaska, Aug. 17.—MP)— The News-Miner say* Lieut. Col. Wilmot A. Danielson, chairman of a board studying possible sites for an army air base in Alaska, announced to the newspaper today the base would be located within 10 miles of Fairbanks. Mayor E. B. Collins of Fairbanks said he was likewise informed. Colonel Danielson was quoted as saying negotiations for several alternative sites were being conducted, with a decision to be made later. Actual construction depended upon an appropriation by congress, the oolonel was quoted. Army Plane Damaged Medford, Ore., Aug. 17.—OP)—A bimotored army Martin bomber, piloted by Cadet T. K. Sandegren, with Cadet J. M. Reynolds and two privates aboard, tore away its left side landing assembly at Medford airport late this afternoon. None was injured. The mishap occurred when the plane bounced, coming ki against the wind. The landing gear collapsed on the second bounce. The plane was en route from Tacoma to Hamilton field, Calif. Mrs. Post Delayed Fairbanks, Alaska, Aug. 17.—OP)— Cloudy and threatening weather, a day like the one Will Rogers and Wiley Post left here a year ago and met death in a crash near Barrow, delayed a memorial flight led by Mrs. Post to the northern outpost today. A trace of rain fell here and the temperature touched freezing early today, while wind scattered fog in from the Arctic ocean. It was cloudy over the entire 500-mile route north.
