Description
Summary:Aircraft Carrier Going To Alaska For Winter Tasks. Aircraft Carrier Going To Alaska For Winter Tasks WASHINGTON, Nov. 38. (/P)-- The navy will send the aircraft carrier Ranger to Alaskan waters this winter for cold weather flight training. A spokesman for the department. staid today the ship would go north in January for a month. He declined comment on possibilities of the Aleutian island area being surveyed for air stations or naval bases. Under present naval treaties the United States cannot fortify or ou the Aleutian islands. That agrement expires next year and there has been considerable speculation as to what will happen if a new agreement is not reached. Army fliers more than a year ago surveyed the territory. Several bills have been introduced in Congress for such bases and the Wilcox frontier defense act calls for one in Alaska.
