Prehistoric Villages of Alaska Had Astonishing Cultural Levels SEATTLE, Aug. 14. iVP)—Dr. Ales Hrdlicka, Smithsonian institution anthropologist, who arrived here yesterday from Alaska, announced discovery on Kodiak island of prehistoric villages among the oldest in North America. He said the island had a vast untouched field for scientific work on the "trail of ion from Asia to America." "Large settlements which 'flourished, died and were reoccupied many times long before the Russians found them deserted 150 years ago, dot the island," he said. "I found surprisingly large populations and astonishingly cultural levels among them." Seeking evidence of a trek of the human race from Asia across Bering strait, once a land bridge, into North America, Dr. Hrdlicka has worked south from Point Barrow since 1926.
