(/P)—Dr. Ales Hrdlicka, Smithsonian institution anthropologist, who has returned from Alaska, announced discovery on Ko- diak island of prehistoric villages, among the oldest In North America. He said the island had a vast untouched field for scientific work on the "trail of civilization from Asia to America." "Large settlements which flourished, died and were reoccupied many times long before the Russians found them deserted 150 years ago, dot the inland," he said. "I found surprising large papulations and astonishing cultural levels among them."
