Officers Probe Death of Former Nome Hotel Man NOME, Friday, May 22.—(/P)—United States deputy marshals today investigated the death of Bernard Kelly, a pioneer mine operator and former Nome hotel proprietor, whose body, hands lashed behind the back, was found on the shore of the Bering Sea at Cape Nome. Although a coroner's jury expressed the opinion Kelly may have been slain and his body thrown in the Bering Sea, the officers said they found a note at his camp saying he intended to commit suicide because he was "getting old, had no money and did not wish to become dependent on others." Since his hotel, The Alaska, burned in the fire of 1934, Kelly placer mined on the beach at Cape Nome, near here.
