The law was passed for Alaska by Congress before the creation of the territorial legislature, but has not previously been enforced. The present actions are for 1934-36 licenses. The information's charge twenty-nine violations to the Northland and forty-five to the Alaska line. If adjudged guilty the total license charge would be about $40,000 to the Alaska line and $7,500 to the Northland line, exclusive of penalties provided by law. Measures are before congress this term, indorsed by the Ketchikan and other chambers of commerce, to repeal provisions of the old law. The Alaska legislature two years ago memorialized congress to transfer the licensing power to the territory.
