NORTHLAND LANDS FOOD SUPPLIES AT BARROW Barrow, Alaska, Aug. 12.—(/P>— After a race with the Arctic ice pack, the coast guard cutter Northland slipped into a mooring off shore here today with food supplies rushed here from Nome for 500 or more Eskimos "near starvation" at points to the eastward. The supplies, flour, beans, and sugar, were hastily unloaded in small boats and brought ashore. The Northland then prepared to leave tonight for the south while ice conditions permit. Upon Prank Daugherty, government reindeer supervisor, was left the work of relaying the shipments eastward in small boats and launches. Despite the need, several boat owners here from the eastward asked $40 and $50 a. ton for such shipments.
