Wilkins Refuels For Pole Search Britisher Will Take Off on 3rd Hunt For Russians FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Aug. 26.— (/P)—Sir George Hubert Wilkins, explorer, refused his flying boat at Coppermine, N. W. T., today for his third thrust over Arctic ice fields in search of the six lost Soviet transpolar airmen. Pilot Sigismund Levanefsky and his five comrades, Wilkins said he believed, were probably forced down about 500 miles south of the North Pole in an area between latitude 80 to 82 and longitude 130 to 150. King Baird, who flew here with an amphibian plane to join the hunt, said he expected to leave for Point Barrow within a few days after having his ship thoroughly checked. He came from Anacortes, Wash.
