Description
Summary:Clouds And Fog Delay Search For Russ Flyers. CLOUDS AND FOG DELAY SEARCH FOR RUSS FLYERS BARROW, Alaska, Aug. 21. (/P)— Clouds and fog blanketed the Arctic ocean's ragged ice packs today and delayed an extensive aerial search for the lost soviet transpolar Aviators gathered here to hunt for Pilot Sigismund Levaneffsky and his five companions faced the danger of wrecking their planes, should they be forced to land on the jumbled, shifting ice around Point Barrow. Pilot Jimmie Mattern, American flyer, who dared the fogs in a 400- mile flight over the ice, said he found landing conditions "impossible," and barely reached safety on a sand spit three miles from this settlement.
