ABANDONS SEARCH FOR PASSENGERS FAIRBANKS, Alaska, Sept. 30.— (JP)—The search for Pilot Arthur F. Hines, his lost airplane and three passengers ended here today with the return of Pilot Herman Lerdahl from the Arctic Circle. Lerdahl, who has been flying out of Circle Hot Springs, said he found no trace of the plane, Hines or the passengers, Mr. and Mrs. John Lonz and Alton Nordale, all of Fairbanks who disappeared August 19 while flying here from Dawson Y. T. With snow falling in the hills, Lerdahl expressed doubt the lost ship would be found this winter unless some trapper or Indian stumbled upon it by accident. The City of Fairbanks is offering a reward of $1,000 to the person who finds the ship or brings word leading to the finding of the lost persons or their bodies. An order by the probate court last week appointed Mrs. E. L. Disel, Toledo, Ohio, guardian of the Lonz estate and she is operating his merchandise business here. Guardians have been appointed for the estates of the others and Einar Tonseth has been made clerk of the federal court for trie fourth division, filling a vacancy created by the disappearance of Nordale.
