Merrill, pilot who was lost for nine days without food when two planes bearing a film expedition were forced down between the Endicott mountains and Point Barrow, was dying at Kotzebue, where he was taken for treatment. Merrill, after having set out no foot for Point Barrow from an isolated lake in the interior upon whose ice his plane had landed, was discovered groping his way through the snow, suffering from snow blindness, exposure and lack of food. His home was formerly at Portland, Ore. Text Barrow Point Barrow Alaska Washington State University: WSU Libraries Digital Collections Pacific
