Grand Coulee a marvel. - Alexander Ross, who ranged over this region as a fur trader a hundred years ago and wrote two books that have passed into the classics of far western literature, considered the Grand coulee the chief scenic wonder of the northwest. Ross' years with the Northwest Company of Canada, and later with the Hudson's Bay company, gave him personal knowledge of the mountains, rivers, forest, lakes, and waterfalls of Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. One the sunset side of life, when writing his instructive and entertaining books, recollections of the Grand coulee were vivid above others.
