Carroll to receive and act as custodian of funds subscribed to cast in bronze the Victor Alonzo Lewis statue of "The Sourdough" was announced yesterday as plans for a joint unveiling of the memorial and. dedication of Alaskan Way began to take shape. Members of the Alaska-Yukon Pioneers have already subscribed $7,000 and an additional $18,000 is needed to cast the twenty-four-foot statue, Capt A. J. Goddard, in charge of the solicitation, announced. Captain Goddard, as.a representative of the Alaska-Yukon pioneers, Councilman Robert H. Harlin and City Engineer W. A. Carle make up a committee planning the dedication of Alaskan Way. "To allow time for the casting of the statue, the joint dedication will not be held until fall," Captain Goddard said. "Late fall would be more suitable because many Alaskans will be in Seattle for the winter then."
