FORCED TO MARRY AT PISTOL POINT. Tried To Evade Her By Window Leap, Aged Man Testifies. SEATTLE, June 15. (AP)—Herbert Greenberg, 71-year-old Nome, Alaska, merchant, testified today that his wife, Anna, who writes poetry under the name of Johanna Frada, compelled him to marry her at the point of a pearl-handled pistol. "'If you don't marry me, I'll kill you!' " he quoted her as saying. "I tried to evade the wedding by jumping out of a window," he continued, "but her father grabbed me. The Seattle poetess, suing for divorce on grounds of cruelty, had testified her marriage in Alaska with "Millionaire" Greenberg was unhappy and that he "thumped me in the back with his fist because a 5-cent can of cream went sour." She said, under questioning of counsel, that she didn't give all-night liquor parties for "literary" and "arty" people, squander money on clothing or marry Greenberg for his fortune. She denied using a weapon to force their marriage. Text Nome Alaska Washington State University: WSU Libraries Digital Collections Pacific
