INLAND ROUTE TO ALASKA IS SPOKANE AIM Believing that there will be a demand for an inland airway from the west coast to Alaska, the Spokane aviation committee has opened a campaign to secure improvements of fields on the logical route from Spokane to Nome. "Because of topographical and weather conditions, we believe that an inland airway to Alaska is more feasible than a coast route," Ellsworth Thorpe, secretary of the aviation committee said Friday. "Early development of the Alaskan airway is virtually assured, we believe. Spokane, principal inland terminal of the northern airway, is the only logical point from which to start the inland Alaskan airway." CITIES URGED TO GET AIRPORTS The proposed route would be from Spokane, through Chewelah, Colville, Newport, Kettle Falls, Laurier, Northport and Republic, across Canada and into Nome. Municipal airports are now under construction at Chewelah, Colville and Newport. The chamber is writing letters to civic organizations of the other cities along the route, urging that immediate action be taken to secure airports for their cities.
