State College Girl Wins Textile Prize. Out of several hundred designs submitted from every part of this country, three women, Miss Georgiana Haases of Buffalo Albright Art school, Buffalo, N. Y., Miss Catherine Goldback of the State College of Washington, Pullman, and Miss Hilda C. M. Bergvall of Cooper Union, New York,; were awarded respectively first second and third prizes, in the textile contest, conducted by Corona Mundi, International Art Center, 310 Riverside Drive, New York, for the Alfred C.J Bossom Cooperation-in-art prizes. The contest called for a textile design based on the primitive art of North America, and could be based on the art of the Astec, Tolec, Mayan, Eskimo or American Indian tribes. The results were most unusual, the designs being so astonishing in their utilization of the themes of the Indians, that the Corona Mundi, International Art Center has decided to break its rule, and plans to hold a ten day exhibition of the designs submitted so that all may see this work. Miss Goldback's design was based upon a very ancient Mayan motif—that of the sacred staff of the Mayan priests.
