First Trip Out North Since '98. First Trip Out North Since Seattle, Nov. 3—(AP)—By all the traditions, Gust Johnson, 69, Kotzebue, Alaska, "sourdough" should have been gasping and gaping at the wonders of civilization here today on his first trip "outside" since he sailed north from San Francisco in '98. But truthfully, Gust Johnson, poke of gold dust in his pocket, just sat at the tavern table and sipped another glass of beer and said: "I'll get around and see things pretty soon. I have to buy some good clothes first." Johnson glanced down at the heavy clothing he wore ashore. He said he'd been prospecting in Alaska so long he had gotten so he could get along without cities and the wonders of civilization. In fact, said Johnson, he hadn't visited Nome, closest city to his operations, for 15 years until he came down with the rheumatism and his Kotzebue friends assured him a trip to "the States" would make him feel better. "I feel better all right," he said. "But I think I'll go back in the spring."
