The State College Library Received Very Rare Volume Washington State College-May 8-One of the outstanding contributions received by the State College library during its Founder's Day drive for books was a copy of "A Journal of Captain Cook's Last Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, and in Quest of a North west passage between Asia and America" presented by Dr. Edwin F. Dummeier, professor of economics. The volume was written by John Ledyard, and published by Nathaniel Patten at Hartford, Connecticut in 1783. A check of book listings here reveals that the only other known copy of this volume west of the Mississippi is in the government library at Victoria, B. C. and librarians believe that copies are extremely rare throughout the United States. The State College Library has an extensive and growing collection of northwest histories and material of this sort is doubly welcome, says W. W. Foote, librarian.
