COLLEGE LIBRARY GETS RARE VOLUME WASHINGTON STATE COLLEGE, Pullman, May 14.-One of the outstanding contributions received by the state college library during its Founders' day drive for books was a copy of "A Journey of Captain Cook's Last Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, and in Quest of a Northwest Passage Between Asia and America," presented by Dr. Edwin F. Dummeier, professor of economics. The volume was written by John Ledyard, and published by Nathaniel Patten at Hartford, Conn., in 1783. A check of book listings here reveals that the only other known copy of this volume west of the Mississippi is in the government library at Victoria, B. C. and librarians believe that copies are extremely rare throughout the United States. The State College Library has an extensive and growing collection of northwest histories and material of this sort is doubly welcome, says W. W. Foote, librarian. HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES TO COMPETE AT PULLMAN WASHINGTON STATE COLLEGE, Pullman, May 14.-More than 100 high school athletes, winners of district meets, will compete in the interscholastic track meet to be held at the State College of Washington on Saturday, May 18. This meet will bring together the best men from approximately 75 high schools of the state.
